Her Majesty Inaugurates Wheelchair Accessibility Adaptation at Centenary Park

Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen graced a ceremony to unveil the Wheelchair Accessibility Adaptation of the Centenary Park on 5th June 2016. The adaptation is part of initiatives to make public spaces accessible to people with disabilities, upon the Royal command of Her majesty the Gyaltsuen. Following the initiatives of the Ability Bhutan Society, Which consulted experts and designed structures to make the Centenary Park Wheelchair accessible, ramps and railings were installed by the Thimphu Thromde. The Thimphu Thromde plans to work with Ability Bhutan Society to take forward the initiatives and work on making other public areas in Thimphu accessible to people with disabilities.

The event was jointly organized by Ability Bhutan Society, the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, Bhutan Kidney Foundation and Thimphu Thromde. Besides the Prime Minister and government official, the event was attended by people with diverse abilities and their families. Students from Ability Bhutan Society, Darktsho, Wangsel Institude Paro and Chnggangkha School participated in the event, along with members of the Disabled persons Association of Bhutan.
